The Ins and Outs of Book Fairs

A few days ago, the Association of Antiquarian Booksellers of America (ABAA) hosted a panel titled “Demystifying ABAA Book Fairs.” It offers valuable insight into the dos and don’ts of participating in international book fairs and is well worth watching.

Book fairs, especially larger international events, can be intimidating, and much of the etiquette is something booksellers learn only over time and through experience.

As part of the ABAA’s Gender Equity Initiative, the panel brought together a group of booksellers who openly shared their experiences, perspectives on fair etiquette, and even some of their own past mistakes. Their honesty and openness make this discussion particularly useful, not only for newer or younger dealers, but for anyone looking to better navigate the international fair landscape.
