PODCAST: Fairytales in Australia - feat. ILAB bookseller Douglas Stewart

Earlier in the week, the Australian history radio programme, "The History Listen" spoke to Melbourne bookseller Douglas Stewart and the magic of Ida Rentoul Outhwaite's illustrations and paintings which brought fairies to life for generations of Australian children.

Ida's fairies, elves and imps and the world they inhabited was beguiling - and eagerly consumed by society of the day. The baby princess Elizabeth was given a copy of one of her books. But as the century progressed the artist's popularity dwindled, as did the fantasy world she created. In this program, Ida Rentoul Outhwaite's work is reimagined and re-evaluated through 21st century eyes.

Douglas Stewart Fine Books Pty. Ltd. is an antiquarian bookseller based in Melbourne, Australia.
