Pietro Pera e il mondo dei libri a Lucca tra Sette e Ottocento
Davide Martini
Pietro Pera (1796-1846), canon and later archbishop of Lucca, was a prominent figure in the city's cultural scene in the early nineteenth century. He served as private librarian to Duke Charles II of Bourbon, making a significant contribution to the creation of Lucca's Palatine Library, later moved to Parma.
The recent discovery of his personal archive, containing over 10,000 unpublished manuscripts and 3,000 autographed letters, offers new insights into his work and his relationships with the key players in the book trade of the time. This volume brings together several contributions, many of which were presented at the conference "Book Trade and Collections in Lucca between the Decline of the Republic and the End of the City's Independence: Pietro Pera, Palatine Librarian and Archbishop of Lucca" (Lucca, Church of Santa Maria Annunziata dei Servi, October 16, 2021). These studies reveal not only family and friendship ties, but above all Pera's contacts with the vibrant world of books between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
