Since 2001, following lengthy preparations, the first volume of the monumental work * History of the German Book Trade in the 19th and 20th Centuries* , commissioned by the German Publishers and Booksellers Association and published by its Historical Commission, has been released. Now, in record time, Volume 5, covering the GDR, has appeared. The first two parts of the GDR book trade history were published in 2022 and 2023 ; a year later, the complete work, comprising more than 2,000 pages, is now available.
