Three countries - one new fair: folium.digital
folium.digital is a new virtual international rare book fair jointly organised by the antiquarian booksellers’ associations of Switzerland, Austria and Germany. The three German-speaking associations want to bundle their contacts and strengths and build on their shared cultural tradition.
"After only a few days, we already had 50 registrations. Among them were numerous exhibitors not only from the three countries of the organisers but also from the USA, Great Britain, Belgium, Sweden, the Netherlands and Israel. This response shows that our approach of offering digital fairs and thus providing dealers and above all collectors and institutions with their own trading platforms has been well received.”, writes Sibylle Wieduwilt, President of the German antiquarian booksellers’ association, VDA.
Michael Steinbach, President of the Austrian association VDAÖ writes: "Virtual fairs have dominated the international antiquarian book trade since the beginning of the COVID pandemic. Antiquarian bookshops have not only shifted parts of their business to the internet since this crisis, but since then they have increasingly focused their activities online. Collectors and dealers find each other and the books at virtual fairs. We want to remain positive and set new impulses in these difficult times and try in this way to open up the world of beautiful and rare books to an even larger audience."
The fair platform is bilingual in German and English and thus offers exhibitors and visitors, also from non-German-speaking regions and countries, the opportunity to participate.
folium.digital starts on Thursday, 10 June and will be online until 12 June 2021. All participating antiquarian bookshops and galleries can display up to 20 objects each and illustrate them with up to 10 photos.
