Situation in Los Angeles & Cancellelation of the Pasadena Book Fair

Please find below a message relating to the fires in Los Angeles and the cancellation of the Pasadena California Antiquarian Book Fair
Pasadena Cancellation

On January 14, ILAB President Angus O'Neill wrote to ILAB booksellers worldwide:

Dear ILAB Colleagues,
On behalf of the ILAB Committee, and I am sure on behalf of all our colleagues worldwide, we would like to express our solidarity with the booksellers and residents of Los Angeles who have been affected by the devastating fires of the past few days. We have been following the news in the media and have been in contact with the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America, ABAA. The images have shocked us all, and the consequences of the fires, beyond the tragic loss of life, are not yet fully understood. We are hearing of booksellers being displaced and various book collections being destroyed; however, information will only be confirmed in the coming days or even weeks.

We have been in regular communication with the ABAA over the last few days and can now confirm that, with great regret, the Pasadena California Book Fair is cancelled.

FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) and the Red Cross have assumed control of the Pasadena Convention Center for at least the next 30 days. The venue has therefore informed the ABAA that it is unavailable to host the book fair.
An official statement was made by the ABAA and the fair organiser some hours ago and sent already to ABAA members and fair exhibitors.

Please change your travel arrangements accordingly.

Our thoughts are with our colleagues and friends in California.

With our best wishes,
Angus O'Neill,
ILAB President

President of the Antiquarian Booksellers' Association of America, ABAA, Alexander Akin, wrote in a further message to ILAB on January 14:

Dear ILAB colleagues,
As President of the ABAA, I would like to express my gratitude for the patience of booksellers everywhere as we faced the unprecedented fires that have threatened our book fair in Pasadena, and now unfortunately forced its cancellation. Even those colleagues overseas who wrote to me directly with understandable anxiety about whether to undertake expensive preparations, conveyed their concerns with delicacy and sympathy.
Let us hope that these disastrous fires can be contained as soon as possible."
