In less than a week, the Colorado Book Seminar, in the trade often referred to as CABS will start. A wonderful opportunity for students to learn from experts in the antiquarian book trade.
The Antiquarian Booksellers’ Association of America and the Colorado Antiquarian Book Seminar have shared a close relationship since the time of the Seminar’s inception in 1978, and the goals of the Seminar continue to be supported by the ABAA.
Now in its 40th year, the Antiquarian Book Seminar provides an opportunity for leading specialists to share their expertise and experience with booksellers, librarians, and collectors in a comprehensive survey of the rare book market, both antiquarian and modern.
The Antiquarian Booksellers’ Association of America and the Colorado Antiquarian Book Seminar have shared a close relationship since the time of the Seminar’s inception in 1978, and the goals of the Seminar continue to be supported by the ABAA.

The seminar goes back to 1978 with a first "low key" session and one year later, a full program was developed and launched.
Much has changed in the trade since 1978 and the curriculum had to adapt with it. Over 3000 students have since graduated from the seminar and have started successful careers in the booktrade.
The faculty consists of prominent antiquarian booksellers: Lorne Bair, Lisa Baskin, Brian Cassidy, Rob Rulon-Miller and Garrett Scott as well as senior librarians and rare book trade experts.
Guest Speaker 2017:
Heather O’Donnell worked a series of bookish jobs through college, and got her start in rare books as a curatorial assistant at the Beinecke Library in the mid-1990s. After three years in the Princeton Society of Fellows, she joined the trade as a bookseller with Bauman Rare Books. In 2011, Heather launched Honey & Wax Booksellers in Brooklyn, specializing in literary classics and curiosities. She is a graduate of the Colorado Antiquarian Book Seminar and Rare Book School, a member of the Grolier Club, and the founder of the annual Brooklyn Holiday Book Fair. Honey & Wax is a member of the Antiquarian Booksellers’ Association of America (ABAA) and the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB).
Kevin Young is the author of ten books of poetry, including Book of Hours, winner of the Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize from the Academy of American Poets and a finalist for the Kingsley Tufts Award; Ardency: A Chronicle of the Amistad Rebels, winner of a 2012 American Book Award; and Jelly Roll: A Blues, a finalist for the National Book Award. He is also the editor of The Hungry Ear: Poems of Food & Drink and seven other collections. His book The Grey Album: On the Blackness of Blackness won the Graywolf Nonfiction Prize, was a New York Times Notable Book and a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award for criticism, and won the PEN Open Book Award. He is currently Director of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture at New York Public Library.
